The juvenile Marble Wrasse, also called the Checkerboard Wrasse, displays striking white coloring with black stripes, dots, and patches. As it matures, it transforms into silver with a distinctive black checkerboard pattern across its body, complemented by yellow dorsal and tail fins and a light green face marked with orange-to-pink stripes. This wrasse thrives in a 125-gallon or larger aquarium with a sealed lid and a 2–3 inch sandy substrate for refuge. It pairs well with peaceful wrasses, including its own species. A natural reef cleaner, it hunts fireworms and pyramidellid snails while leaving corals and clams untouched. Larger specimens may target small ornamental shrimp and crabs; they may also consume feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. Feed a varied diet of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods supplemented with high-quality marine flake and pellet foods to support health and coloration.
