Crossi Damselfish

The Crossi Damselfish—also known as the Orange Damselfish—is a striking and occasionally available species that transforms dramatically as it matures. Juveniles display vibrant red-to-orange bodies with a distinctive thin blue horizontal line running from above the eye to the tail, while adults fade to a deep brown, creating a captivating color progression over time. This is a fish for experienced aquarists. Crossi Damselfish are highly territorial and aggressive, requiring a well-established aquarium of at least 50 gallons with abundant rockwork for grazing and refuge. House singly only with larger, equally assertive tank mates. They will nip at soft corals and demand a varied diet of meaty and algae-based foods—including Spirulina—fed multiple times daily. Maintain stable water conditions: salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–78°F, pH 8.1–8.4, and alkalinity 8–12 dKH. Their bold personality and dynamic coloration reward careful planning and a mature reef setup.
