Horseshoe Crab

Horseshoe crabs range from 2" to 5"+ and are fascinating arthropods featuring a distinctive horseshoe-shaped carapace divided into three sections: prosoma, opisthosoma, and telson. Their dark brown or olive-green exoskeleton houses 10 eyes distributed across their body. These omnivorous scavengers feed on small animals, algae, worms, and mollusks, using specialized leg structures to crush food before grinding it in their gizzard. Their versatile tail aids in steering, righting themselves, and navigating substrate. Hardy and low-maintenance, horseshoe crabs make excellent additions to established reef systems seeking natural cleanup support and behavioral interest.
