Nebulous Wrasse

The Nebulous Wrasse is a striking burrowing wrasse with cryptic coloring and bold mottling that shifts to blend seamlessly with rock and algae. Look for the distinctive eye spot on its dorsal fin—a constant marker even as its patterns change. Mature males display pink markings below the eye, while females show pink on the belly. This wrasse thrives in established aquariums of 90 gallons or larger with passive tank mates. It requires an open sandy substrate at least 2–3 inches deep for burrowing and refuge, plus a tight-fitting lid. The Nebulous Wrasse feeds on benthic invertebrates and will consume fireworms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams. Larger specimens may prey on small ornamental shrimp and crabs; juveniles may eat parasites off tank mates. Feed a varied diet of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, meaty foods, high-quality marine flakes, and pellets.
