The Pencil Urchin is a striking herbivore with thick, club-like spines and exceptional algae-grazing power. This hardy echinoderm excels at controlling coralline algae overgrowth on glass and equipment—a task few creatures can perform. Nocturnal and peaceful, it requires a mature 30+ gallon tank with stable water parameters, sturdy rockwork, and secured corals. Note: its powerful, clumsy movement can dislodge unsecured frags and décor. Best suited for established reef systems where its unique appearance and functional grazing abilities can shine.
